4 Steps to Accurately Detect if There’s a Gas Leak

When you think about it, our houses can be very dangerous. We have to deal with fire, electricity, water, gas, among other things. This is why you need to be careful, pay close attention to any abnormality, and fix what needs fixing as soon as possible.

To help you out in this department, ProRestore DKI in Grimes, will give you a few tips on how you can detect a gas leak, so you can act on it and avoid an accident.

How to Detect a Gas Leak

Take Note

Even if the leak is small, you can still notice some signs that it’s there. Your first clue can be, for example, that your gas supply is running out faster than normal.

Use Your Senses

Smell: gas has a very strong and distinctive smell (of something rotten) that’s put in to alert you if there’s a leak.

Sight: go to the gas line and see if the plants around it are dying out or if seems like an air current is blowing them out.

Hearing: do you hear a hissing sound near the gas line? This can mean that gas is pressured out of the pipe.

Test it Out

If you want to make extra sure that there’s gas leaking out, and to pinpoint its exact location, you’ll need to do the soap test. Mix dishwashing soap and water and soak a sponge in it. Then, use the sponge to rub the pipe down. If you see bubbles forming, there’s your leak!

Call a Professional

If you still aren’t sure of where (or if) the leak is happening, or if you want someone to expertly handle the situation, you need to call a professional (or even your gas supplier).
